Path of Exile Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a common and crucial method to enhance the performance of numerous items in Path of Exile. They can cause additional damage, AD or even affixes.

Often times however upgraded Common and Magic gear is often surpassed by Rare-grade gear due to their higher requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades can be applied to both weapon and armor items. They increase the effectiveness of the item level upgrade that they're attached to. Armor upgrades can be found in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. Alternatively, they can also be salvaged from items with upgrade components within them by using a specialist or more powerful salvage kit.

The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it can take on. The upgrade item of an armor piece to maximum upgrade level will boost its damage absorption. It's important to remember that this will increase the weight of the armor, which means it must be heavier.

There are many different kinds of armor upgrades available in the game. Each one has a distinct effect. For example, some upgrades give the armor a certain number of health points while others make it stronger and lighter. The name of the armor upgrade will tell you the kind of upgrade an item can be given, as illustrated below.

Some of the upgrades also require magic or a hybrid technology and magic, which are shown by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table below. Weapons

Weapon upgrades allow players to enhance certain aspects of their weapon. Upgrades can improve the accuracy of a rifle, or the damage that shotgun shells cause. Some weapons have special enhancements to enhance their intrinsic capabilities. They include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and decreases the chance of the risk of overheating) and Kinetic Coils (increases the velocity of projectiles for greater damage).

The Jeweler can improve the quality of gemstones in stages ranging from Crude up to Royal. Based on the tier of the jewel it can provide different stat boost when slotted into weapons, gear and jewelry.

The Jeweler can craft all tiers of gems, except for the rare and legendary ones that require certain levels to gain. Jewels can be substituted with another one without damaging the original. However it is only possible to replace the jewels in an equipment piece only once.

It is typical to use more gems for aesthetic reasons. Jewels also enhance performance and create a surface harder than steel so that repeated friction caused by pivots does not damage them.

A Glyphmaster can provide glyphs to enhance the appearance of your shields and weapons. These provide a small bonus and can be swapped freely but aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded like jewelry, at the Jeweler for gold, and also a scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be taken out from the inventory, and they are returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components like traits or aegis can't be exchanged and can only be recovered with an Upgrade extractor or salvaging using the Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets are items of equipment that offer many small but useful advantages to your hero. They can be obtained in the starter areas as loot or personal story rewards from vendors, and through completing road interactions. They can also be found on the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.

The first trinket that a player will unlock is the cloak. It gives a small but beneficial boost in movement speed and the ability to escape. After that, they can purchase amulets, rings and necklaces in a similar manner to the way a player can acquire weapons and armor. Every piece of equipment has an upgrade slot which can be universal or jewel. Universal upgrades offer fewer benefits and can be placed in any type of equipment however, jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded and only works with specific types of trinkets.

These trinkets also provide additional buffs and skills that remain active whenever the hero is not fighting. This allows the hero to become more efficient even when not in combat. It also helps compensate for the lack of a excellent slot in the talent tree or team which would normally be filled by a hero's top stats.

A good general rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you aren't planning to replace in the near future, then any items with desirable stats, but less important than the iLevel of the item being upgraded. This is especially true if you're looking to upgrade item several stats on an item. It's best to upgrade just one crucial stat rather than two suboptimal ones.

In the beginning of the game junglers will usually want to upgrade their trinket into a red one in the middle and top players typically choose either a pink or Item upgrades green ward (depending on the matchup). These choices can affect the hero's ability to manage the map.

In addition to the things mentioned above, players can also discover a variety of other trinkets in the game in the form of trophies and awards.
